One of the things people love most about Edifice is how easy it is to build a professional-looking site without needing design or tech experience.

That simplicity comes from a clean, flexible structure made up of a few key pieces: Sections, Columns, Inner Rows, and Widgets. If you've ever used building blocks as a kid, you'll feel right at home.

Let’s walk through it using some screenshots straight from the Edifice builder.

1. Sections: The Foundation of Every Page

Sections are the largest building blocks on your page. Each one spans the full width of your website and usually represents one key part of the content—like a hero banner, a pricing table, or a contact form.

Think of each Section as a "horizontal band" where a specific idea lives.

You can:

  • Add as many sections as you need
  • Change the background, padding, or spacing for each
  • Move sections up or down to change your layout flow
You can add a section by clicking on the section button on the taskbar on the left of the screen. Here you have the option to choose a section template or start from scratch to build your own section.

2. Columns: Splitting Content Inside a Section

Within a section, you can create one or more Columns to divide content side by side. In the example above, the section is split into two columns: one for the text and button, and one for the Edifice Man graphic.

Columns help you:

  • Organize content horizontally (like text on one side, image on the other)
  • Make your site responsive—columns stack automatically on mobile
  • Create symmetrical layouts without writing any code
You can add a column by right-clicking on the section. A small box with options will pop up, you will then go to Add>Column.

3. Inner Rows: Flexible Layouts Within a Column

Sometimes you need more control inside a column—and that’s where Inner Rows come in.

An Inner Row lets you create rows and columns within an existing column. It’s like nesting a layout inside a layout, giving you more flexibility without breaking the structure.

This is super helpful when you want to:

  • Create horizontal divisions within a single column
  • Add multiple elements side-by-side inside one block
  • Keep a clear hierarchy and structure for complex content
Inner Rows make it way easier to build flexible, clean layouts, especially if you’re trying to layer content in a more advanced way without it getting messy.

You won’t always need them, but when you do, they’re a game changer.

4. Widgets: The Actual Content You Add

Widgets are the actual content blocks your visitors interact with—like text, buttons, images, videos, forms, and more.

You can:

  • Drag and drop widgets anywhere inside a column
  • Easily customize fonts, colors, spacing, and alignment
  • Rearrange them with a simple click-and-drag
In the image above, we’re highlighting a text widget inside the left column of the section. This is where you add the message, call-to-action, and supporting info for your visitors.

Final Thought: Keep It Simple

Even though the structure might sound technical, Edifice makes it feel intuitive.

By using Sections → Columns → Rows (Optional) → Widgets, you get a site that’s clean, consistent, and easy to edit—without needing to hire a designer or touch a line of code.

If you're just starting out, focus on one section at a time:

  • Start with a bold headline and button
  • Add more sections as your content grows
  • Use columns when you want variety and visual balance
